Maintenance or Installation Crew Member Job Description
The landscaping team member is an experienced landscaper and assists the crew Foreman. The position works as a member of the team and is responsible for landscape maintenance, Installation, and enhancement projects under the direction of the crew Foreman. The landscape team member is able to operate a variety of equipment and has a working knowledge of horticultural practices.
General:
- Follow company policy
- Show up and be in the stretching circle ready to work at the discussed start time
- Properly use personal protective equipment when necessary
- Report to crew Foreman
Installation Responsibilities:
Morning Start-up:
- Assist in daily preparation of trucks and equipment
- If assigned as a company driver – must complete daily truck inspection pre-trip
- Load gas cans, mowers, tools and other equipment
- Secure all equipment
- Load and secure all plant material and hard materials required for the day
- Assist with documenting all tools and materials taken and update inventory
- Assist crew leader in any preparation required for the day.
Perform landscape installation:
- Planting of trees, shrubs, and perennial flowers.
- Perform all tasks with spring operations included but not limited to leaf and debris removal, bed edging and mulch installation.
- Bed and lawn preparation by hand or by the use of rototiller
- Provide labor associated with the preparation, excavation, and installation of paver patios, walkways, and retaining walls, water gardens, and landscape lighting.
- Irrigation Installation
- Grading
- Heavy equipment use
- Keep a clean and organized jobsite
- Installation of sediment control fabrics.
- Installation of SOD
- Assist crew leader with all tasks associated with landscape installation
End of the day/week equipment maintenance:
- Unload equipment, clean out truck/trailer by removing trash, debris, etc. daily.
- Place equipment in proper location at shop and re-inventory unused materials
- Assist crew Foreman in preparation for the next day.
- Wash and prep equipment as directed by crew Foreman.
Maintenance Responsibilities:
Morning Start-up:
- Assist in daily preparation of trucks and equipment
- Ensure gas cans, mowers, and other equipment needed for the day are on the truck
- Ensure all equipment is secure
- Assist crew leader in any preparation required for the day.
Perform landscape installation and maintenance:
- Completes landscape maintenance duties, such a mowing, fertilizer application, weed control, aeration, spring clean-up, fall clean-up, trimming and pruning.
- Completes landscape enhancement projects such as mulch application, plantings, top soil application, lawn seeding.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment, including work site and equipment.
- Completes the job in the most time-efficient manner meeting the company productivity targets.
- Operates a variety of mechanical equipment including but not limited to bed edgers, commercial mowers, blowers, dump trailers, chain saws, line trimmers, and tillers.
- If approved as a driver, safely operates vehicles such as box, pick-up, dump trucks and trailer combinations.
- Assists the team leader with communication with clients by answering questions, and ensuring the client’s satisfaction throughout the project. Communicates clients concerns to the team leader or management.
- Assists the team leader with route and job organization, ensuring that sufficient resources and materials are available.
- Properly use and maintain equipment
- notify mechanic of equipment repair needs.
- Applies chemicals under the direction of licensed applicator.
End of the day/week equipment maintenance:
- Unload equipment as needed
- Sharpen mower blades as directed by crew Foreman
- Assist crew Foreman in preparation for the next day.
- Wash and prep equipment as directed by crew Foreman.
Quality Control:
- Presents quality expectations and standards to employees only accepting the highest standard of workmanship
- Maintains clients properties at or above JT’s Landscaping’s Standards
- Makes recommendations on ways to improve quality standards for clients and employee
Crew Member Requirements:
- High school degree or GED
- One year’s experience in the landscaping field
- Able to lift 60+lb
- Oral and written communication skills
Bonus Points:
- Experience with installation of hardscape projects – brick, block and stone
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
- North Carolina Driver’s License and insurable with company’s agent
- North Carolina pesticide licenses
- Snow plowing experience
